Wedding Magician in Barcelona: Close-Up Magic That Breaks the Ice
Updated: Sep 21
Your drinks reception is the moment two families and two friend groups who've never met are suddenly in the same garden, rooftop or courtyard, holding a glass of cava and not quite sure who to talk to. Close-up magic solves that problem better than almost anything else you could book.
I'm Rua Gleeson, an Irish magician and mentalist based in Barcelona, with 20 years and 2,000+ events behind me — including performances for Netflix, Disney, Warner Bros., Google and Meta. My partner is Catalan and my son was born here earlier this year, so weddings in and around this city aren't a fly-in job for me. I'm already here, I know the venues, and there are zero travel costs to factor into your budget.

Why close-up magic works so well at weddings
There's no stage, no microphone, no waiting for someone to "perform." I move table to table and group to group during the reception, showing small miracles at arm's length — a borrowed ring, a signed card, a thought that shouldn't have been possible to know. It's intimate rather than a show, which is exactly what a wedding needs: something that brings strangers together in disbelief rather than pulling focus onto a stage.
When to book it into your day
Drinks reception or cocktail hour — the classic slot, while photos are being taken
Between courses at the wedding breakfast, table by table
As guests arrive at the evening reception, to bridge the gap before the party starts
I perform exclusively at adult events — so if you're planning a wedding here in Barcelona, or anywhere across Spain, get in touch and I'll get back to you personally within a few hours to talk through your day.
